COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT COORDINATOR (CIC)
Full time 35 hours (Flexible) per week – 2 Year Contract Position
(May include evening and weekend hours)
The Municipality of Central Huron is seeking a full-time Community Improvement Coordinator who can facilitate a unified vision for our future. Working with various stakeholders (i.e. Council, BIA, community groups, local businesses, Huron County and neighbouring communities) this position will identify needs, develop a brand, and help shape our marketing and communications strategies to foster investment and sustainable growth in our region for the foreseeable future. As a resource for the Business Improvement Association, this position will work closely with the BIA’s steering committee to organize and direct their various annual events as well as administer their social media and advertising needs.
Qualifications: Suitable academic accreditation (Post-Secondary Minimum) and experience in community initiatives are essential. A confident, highly organized self-starter combined with a strong vision, passion, and ability to build partnerships, identify needs, and support business and investment confidence are critically important to the success of this position. Event planning, graphic design, marketing and website maintenance experience are beneficial. Experience developing community partnerships, working with provincial and federal funding agencies and writing funding proposals would be an asset. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills. G license is a requirement.
Key Job Components: Implement the strategic goals of Council in their quest to augment the local business economy, beautify our towns and hamlets (including working with Communities in Bloom initiative), market existing tourism assets and develop new tourism opportunities. Work with local BIA to bolster their marketing initiatives and improve communication between the BIA, Central Huron businesses and Council. Canvass Central Huron businesses and residents for areas of improvement – recreation needs, service enhancements etc.
Facilitation: Work with above groups and gain consensus on future initiatives and deliverables. This work will require strong communication, leadership and team building skills; ability to work with a wide variety of individuals by using tact, diplomacy and flexibility.
Events planning: Work with the BIA to organize 5-6 major events per year that foster community engagement, promote business activity and tourism in Central Huron. Past events have included local festivals, summer fairs, Christmas parades, 5 and 10 KM runs etc.
Work with upper tier’s Economic Development team to promote Central Huron’s existing businesses, industrial opportunities and tourism potential via the production of a Central Huron brand and marketing materials (i.e. brochures, videos etc. radio and print ads). Work with businesses to create greater awareness of Huron County resources for business promotion and possibly create logos/ads for digital sign advertising.
Work with existing community assets to promote youth engagement and retention (i.e. YMCA, REACH, Fanshawe College, University of Guelph’s Ridgetown Campus and community groups such as Kinsmen/Kinettes Clubs, Lions Club, Optimists etc.)
Job Details: This is a two-year contract position. The job entails 35 hours per week but it is a flexible, workload-driven schedule dictated by variable meeting times, various events and stakeholder’s availability. This job will include evening and weekend work as required. Work space and relevant resources will be made available in the Town Hall in Clinton. The CIC will report to the CAO. Salary will be between $42,000 and $55,000/year.
