Isaac Street Construction

Early Summer - Late Fall 2023

See Your Art on a Real Excavator!

This summer, the Municipality of Central Huron and Birnam Excavating ran a special colouring contest. The two winners, Barrett Nurse (age 5) and Ellie (age 11), had their artworks printed as magnets to go on the Isaac Street Big Dig machines. Five runners-up also received prizes: Beau Doupe (age 5), Blake Lyons (age 5), Callam Dykstra (age 10), Brock Dale (age 10), and Elise Bean (age 7).

We received a record-breaking 140+ submissions. They have been printed on two signs located outside of Heartland Church in Clinton and are visible below. Take your photo with the signs and tag us to be shared!

Isaac Street Construction Project

The full reconstruction of Isaac Street has been in the Capital Plan for some time, and the Municipality is looking forward to finally implementing this infrastructure improvement. The current conditions are very poor, and this project will provide much-needed improvements to Isaac Street, adding to the downtown aesthetic and providing better servicing to the ratepayers in that area. The work will include:

  • Enbridge: replacement of gas lines and installing new gas meters/regulators in the downtown area

  • Replacement of water, sewer & storm mains

  • Replacement of the water/sewer servicing and adding storm servicing into the buildings on the block between Huron & Mary streets. Replacing water/sewer servicing and adding storm servicing to property line between Mary & Dunlop streets.

  • Improved accessibility for sidewalks and building entrances

  • Complete replacement of sidewalk, curb, gutter & asphalt

  • Decorative sidewalk & street light poles will be added in the downtown portion of Isaac Street, cohesive with the design of Albert Street

  • Full road construction with new asphalt

Project Phases / Timelines

Phase 1 – Dunlop Street to Joseph Street: late May to mid-June. Once the excavation work begins in the Phase 1 section, the road will be only open to local traffic and could be impassable at times. Phase 2 & 3 section traffic will remain open until further notice.

Phase 2 – Huron Street to Mary Street: mid to late June

Phase 3 – Mary Street to Joseph Street: late June to late July

Phase 4 – Industrial Park Sewer forcemain extension: late August to September

The project completion date is November 2023. Read the municipality’s full construction notice or visit their construction page. View weekly updates below.
